In Girl Scouts - it is highly necessary to welcome each new member in with a proper ceremony. It's a big responsibility to follow the Girl Scout Law. It's a big responsibility to be the best Girl you can be and show other Girls how to be the best girls they can be.
Once a Girl Scouts knows her Girl Scout Promise in Daisy's you get your very first official Dairy Patch - the center of the Daisy. We had a Investiture Ceremony for our girls where we (I) read the Girl Scout Law and one by one each girl added a petal to our Troop Banner Center Flower.
The girls had decorated their own Daisy's in a previous week, added a pic of themselves I had taken in a previous meeting, and colored in the sky and the grass. I thought it was pretty creative if I do say so myself seeing as I thought of it all on my own. :) The banner that is - I used a pre-scripted ceremony.
After each girl added their petal to the center flower, I called them one by one, officially pinned them as Daisy Girl Scouts and gave them their welcoming certificates. Then we said the Girl Scout Promise and the crowd erupted in clapping. It was great. Except for that one moment where I gave a girl the wrong last name. She always attends with another girl, I've never met her parents, and I always tease these two girls that where you find a Raeanne you find a Valerie. They are that close. After the ceremony her dad come up and told my I tried to give her to a new family. I had extra certificates so I quickly made a new one. On the way home Jason asked me what that was all about and I told him, he asked the correct last name, and I told him. He said yeah, he went to school with that guy. He's still as mouthy as he was in high school. OH. Must have been some other stuff said - Jason was sitting right behind their group.
Here's the troop (Haley is on the far left) sitting in front of their banner after they were pinned.
This amazing cake was made by my co-leader Kim. When she said she owned The Fudgge Shoppe in Washington - I thought it was all chocolate. When she offered to bring the cake I was amazed! AMAZED! It's like we ordered it from Ace of Cakes without the height. The center Daisy matches their Daisy patch and each petal had a girls name with our troop number on the top petal. So FUN!

Here are two very happy Girl Scouts!
Okay - switching gears - TWILIGHT. Oh how I waited for this movie! It was even opening weekend for riffle hunting and my sweet Jason stayed home Friday night rather than joining Keith in Hermann to cut deer so I could go to this movie. Sometimes my cup just runneth over with this man!
At 11:30 Friday afternoon Haley and I attempted to pre-purchase my ticket. I had heard mothers outside the school earlier in the week about already having a ticket so I knew I better do the same. (Haley was sick Wednesday,Thursday,Friday,Saturday, and even a bit on Sunday while soaking up some attention from Sheri on the phone) The doors were locked, I had to wait to get my ticket.
Haley and I also had a Girl Scout outing at the Firehouse at 6pm. We left the house 15 minutes earlier than we normally would have (she was feeling better and her fever appeared to be gone at this point) in order to me to get my ticket. My heart sped up a bit when I saw a sign on the door - a sign stating that the 7:00 show was sold out. Good thing I was going after the 9:40 show.
During out tour - Haley's fever came back and I gained a small headache. We got back to the house at 6:45 so I napped a bit to get rid of the headache, then got up, looked up some stuff online for Jason, and got ready to leave the house at 8:45. Yes, that's almost an HOUR before show time.
I had asked Patti to go with me but alas - she went to Hermann with Keith. I did, however, see or rather hear Devon at the movies. He was leaving as I was pulling in and not only yelled my name as loud as his little voice could yell, he called me to ask if I was coming or going. Apparently that's all he needed to know since once I answered, he hung up. I did get what movie he went to see and it was NOT Twilight. Tsk Tsk Tsk.
I walked in the theater at 9:00. Popcorn, soda, and Good N Plentys in hand and waiting IN LINE to get a seat at 9:10. I was behind a really cute group of girls that had matching Twilight pants on and were obviously having a sleep over that night - one had her stuff in tow. Behind me a group of four adults, one of which was the only one who read the book and knew the power of Edward, and were giggling, yes boys and girls alike giggling at the giggling teenagers. I giggled myself. It was quite a funny experience to be caught between both worlds.
They did not let us in till 9:30, I got a nice seat, no one sat to the right of me but a couple sat to the left of me and I swear, halfway through I think I lost myself in the movie and had actually relaxed my leg to where it was leaning on her. Once I realized this I just slowly moved it in the opposite direction and fell back into the movie.
It was great. I don't care what ANY paid critic has to say, this was the closest movie to any novel I've ever seen. And the novel is full of lots of dialog that the movie skimmed over the right stuff and really portrayed the realization Edward is a Vampire and Bella's feelings so wonderfully. Well done. I want to go back and see it again to which Jason responded - you saw it last Friday. Hello, we saw Cars at the theater 3 times - I think I can Twilight at least twice. I even came home and started reading the series all over again the next day. I was not ready to let go of all that is Edward and Bella so easily.
Regis asked Monday why women loved vampires. It's their passion. Their strength and their passion. You can see it in their eyes. It's sexy....so sexy. If you have not read the series, get over the whole vampire thing because every Hollywood vision you have of a vampire is NOT Edward and his family.
I do have to add that at first I wasn't crazy about who they cast as Edward, I was envisioning someone more the lines of Shane West - but 10 minutes in I forgot all that and loved all of it. Great casting.
