Someone said YES! Actually, two people did.
After 6 months of searching for any admin/clerical/office job....after 6 months of interviews....after 6 months of hearing 'even though we are impressed with your experience, the position has been filled'....I have job....I have TWO jobs!
When I left my job of 10 years back in May, I always had every intention of getting a job once Haley started school. A few of those jobs I later learned had over 80 applicants for just one position opening.
Last month I had an interview with the school district where Haley attends school...for the cafeteria. I know, the cafeteria BUT I would only be working when Haley was in school and off every day that she was off. Seemed ideal to me. Well, I did get a call back but not for the full time position. I am now (well, as of the board meeting this month) on the substitute list for the cafeteria for the school district. Yeah me!
A few weeks ago I was just banging my head on where to look for work next, my Moms friend even gave me about a thousand ideas that weren't really for me, when I decided out of the blue to just check out Six Flags and see what was open. I worked there when I was in High School, LOVED IT then, bound to love it now but didn't want to work alongside a bunch of 15 year olds. Scrolled through the list and there was one seasonal opening that met my needs - it wasn't with a bunch of 15 year olds and it went along with what I've been doing all along anyway.
I emailed the supervisor my resume, she had me fill out the online application right away and within a few days I had an interview with HR. I was there for two hours - and spoke with 4 different individuals. I was sent home with some background paperwork and another interview appointment in a few more days. Drove in, met with security (this was a Thursday) - on Saturday at 1pm I rec'd a phone call from the supervisor offering me the position!!!!
I'll have to work weekends till the summer schedule then I'll get a minimum of 3 shits and max of 4 but I get day shift! AND I get to wear my own clothes, no uniform.
Ahhhhh What a relief. I really feel like I've started over and had such a nostalgic year. Over the summer I attended my 15 year high school reunion, New Kids On The Block came back and released a new album, 90210 is back on the air, and ME, I'm working at SIX FLAGS again - just like I did 15 years ago. Maybe I'm getting that 2nd chance to actually ENJOY what I do for a living once again. Like I did a few years ago. So nice!

RUN, don't walk, RUN to your nearest video store and rent 'The Lucky Ones' - staring Tim Robbins, Rachel McAdams, and Michael Pina......and MY MOM!!
Last year my mom was asked through her union hall to be a driver on the set of this movie - it was taped in St Louis. It's about 3 soldiers home on leave from Iraq and drive cross country. It was a bit distracting in the beginning to recognize the landscaping and know they were not where they said they were.
One day, during a scene, they needed a Taxi driver - Mom was picked to drive the Taxi. During the film there are two scenes in front of an air port. The second which is supposed to be an air port in las vegas - my Mom is driving the taxi that the three main characters walk in front of. You'll only know it's her if you know Mom. I caught it first, hit rewind for Jason, and then again for Haley to see her Grandma! You'll also see her name in the credits under St Louis drivers along with her fellow drivers. So cool!!!!
If you know my mom - run out and get this movie!
